STUDIO ABRICOT is a multidisciplinary design studio in the field of visual and spatial communication design.

Founded by Luxembourgish designer Rachel Hoffmann, Studio Abricot’s design practice is based on an analytical and conceptional approach. Informed by research and conception, inspired by experimentation and contextualization, the studio offers multimedia solutions ranging from corporate identities, posters, books, web design to installations, spatial experiments, scenography and experimental film, … in a spatial, digital and printed matter.

Studio Abricot fuses the line between art and design. By transforming research into reality it uses the language of design to craft contemporary visual narratives in the two-and three-dimensional space. The Studio adopts an experimental work methodology while keeping the idea of conceptual design at the heart of every project. It values an interpretative, translating approach in design in order to find a relevant form of expression for each creative endeavor.

Studio Abricot provides artistic direction on all design projects enabling brands, clients or institutions to connect with their audience through immersive storytelling. Rachel conducts an ongoing exploration on the possibilities of design, constantly pushing its conventional boundaries and making of Studio Abricot a space where creativity meets functionality and artistry blends with purpose.

SPATIAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN

Spatial design is all about exploring the convergence of space and media as interface for communication. It’s multifaceted approach leads to design outputs spanning from installations to films and performances, to objects and scenographies. Physical model building and real-scale experiments are used to test initial implementations of a project. At its core is the creation of multi-sensory experiences inviting the audience to engage with design and the explored subject in a meaningful and immersive way.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN

Studio Abricot's graphic design approach is influenced by the "Swiss Style" which emerged in the mid-20th century. By emphasizing conceptual depth, a restrained visual aesthetic with typography as the primary focus, and a minimal use of color, the works achieve a formal clarity that draws attention to the information being conveyed. Within the realm of graphic design, the Studio concentrates primarily, but not exclusively, on projects implemented in the cultural field, with the objective of creating compelling visual solutions that effectively communicate complex ideas.

In both design forms, one finds the necessity of engaging with the material, which in the case of visual and spatial design is the material of the artifact. Whether it is a poster, an installation, a book or a short film, regardless of the medium chosen, the material of the content being worked with must also be considered. Design is about the interpretation of the material on different levels and the translation of content from one form to another.

Studio Abricot’s work is characterized by a cross-disciplinary approach breaking down complex issues with subtlety and simplicity. Its design practice seeks to drive and create critically relevant and contemporary project possibilities shaped by the desire of generating new visions and rethinking conventional approaches.
